Osteopathy

Osteopathy was founded by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, M.D in 1874. Dr. Still was both a physician and a minister. He treated his patients using what medical discipline that was available at the time and became increasingly frustrated with the severe toxicity associated with those treatments. He was ultimately propelled to find a different way when three of his sons died of spinal meningitis as he was helpless and could not offer them any treatment.

He began to experiment and found his way back into the anatomy lab and put his hands to work, learning all he could about the body and its function. This, in addition to his medical knowledge, combined to create a unique hands-on discipline that has grown into one of today’s most efficient ways of diagnosing and treating patients.

Today Osteopathic medicine is a system of health care based on the premise that disease is the result of the relationship between anatomical structure and physiological function. Structure and function are considered interdependent and a normally functioning musculoskeletal system plays an important role in wellness, disease prevention and recover.

Acupuncture...

Chinese medicine is one of the oldest medical systems known to man.  It is based on Chinese philosophy, which centres on the concept of balance of the opposites, and on human healing. Acupuncture is a medical treatment, which the Chinese have been using and refining for more than 3000 years. The practice of acupuncture and massage developed through observations of the effects they produced on certain parts of the body and on specific ailments. Acupuncture treatment involves insertion of very fine needles in specific locations where the special pathways or channels come to the surface of the skin, to remove obstruction from the channels and regulate the flow of energy (Qi) and Blood..

All matter Qi, which flows up and down these channels. Qi     is a balance of Yin and Yang.  Obstruction, deficiency        or excess throw Yin and Yang out of balance, resulting in disease.    Acupuncture helps restore the balance.  Some complimentary treatments to acupuncture are moxibustion, cupping, acupressure (and reflexology which is a variation of acupressure), Chinese herbalism, Qigong exercises, meditation and diet.

Acupuncture should be considered as a valid form of treatment   along side mainstream medicine and other “alternative” forms of treatment.  Acupuncture treatment restores and maintains the  natural free flow of energy through muscles, blood vessels and    vital organs of the body.

Diseases that can be treated successfully by Acupuncture or its related treatments are common ailments such as:

  • Lower backache
  • Stiff neck and shoulders
  • Arthritic conditions
  • Headache of all kinds
  • Allergic reactions
  • Muscle spasms
  • Obesity
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Stress
